This film is visually powerful in spots, as it overcomes its routine theme with burning images of lust, greed, and hatred.

Rating: 2/5 --
As the deadlier of the refugee criminals, Steve Cochran is almost as mean as his colleague, Chill Wills, is picturesque. Their resourceful efforts would be more effective if the drama, as directed by Sam Peckinpah, did not move at the pace of a hearse.

Description by OLDIES.com:
An unholy alliance! Marking the feature film debut of one of Hollywood's most influential and widely referenced auteur directors, Sam Peckinpah, The Deadly Companions centers on a redemptive journey to escort a funeral procession through dangerous Indian Territory. Featuring fine work from a top-notch cast that includes the inimitable Maureen O'Hara at the height of her illustrious career, Peckinpah's first foray into film provides a promising glance into the energetic and violent nature of his iconic later works.
