I can't believe I'm saying this; in fact, it seems wrong as I say it, but Dora and the Lost City of Gold is one of the best films of 2019.

A shameless crowd-pleaser delivered with such panache and disarming charm that it's pretty much impossible to do anything other than smile and enjoy it.

3 stars out of 5 -- [A] GOONIES-style old-school adventure kicks in when she and a group of classmates are kidnapped by mercenaries tracking her parent’s secret expedition to Parapata, the Incan City of Gold.

[I]t permits Dora to remain indefatigably upbeat no matter what the situation, whether navigating treacherous Incan temples or facing an auditorium of jeering teenage peers.

Considering a live-action Dora the Explorer had been, for years, thought of only as a joke concept, it's impressive how much this film gets right.

Product Description:
Directed by James Bobin and based on the TV series Dora the Explorer created by Eric Weiner, Valerie Walsh Valdes and Chris Gifford, this family adventure film follows Dora (Isabela Moner) as she moves from the jungle to High School. Inevitably, High School turns into a dramatic adventure to save Dora's Mom (Eva Longoria) and Dad (Michael Peña) and find the lost city of gold, with kids from her school, cousin Diego (Jeffrey Wahlberg), Boots the monkey and a jungle dweller (Eugenio Derbez) coming along for the ride.
