The failure of director-writer Peter Hyams to put any weight whatever behind the moral issues (crude as they are) makes this merely violent nonsense. Full Review
Rating: 6/10 -- ...not a great movie but a reliable one, with another solid performance from Sean Connery, who always makes a staunch, stalwart protagonist of truly heroic proportions. Full Review
Rating: 3.5/4 -- Outland is essentially High Noon in outer space, and one of the most entertaining sci-fi flicks ever made.
Because both dialogue and direction are none too exciting, one's tired eyes wander endlessly over the space base sets. Full Review
Hyams has directed a few sci-fi action thrillers including Capricorn One, Sudden Death, Timecop and 2010. This isn't his best. Full Review
...OUTLAND is what most people mean when they talk about good escapist entertainment...

Rating: 2/4 -- Connery and Boyle are fine, but the wholesale lifting of High Noon's plot certainly undermines interest. Full Review
A federal marshal on an outer-space mining colony uncovers a hideous secret that threatens the sanity of miners working in the depths of an outer planet. Academy Award Nominations: Best Sound.
Sometime in the future, an upstanding federal marshal arrives at a space colony located on one of Jupiter's moons. Alarmed by the strange and violent behavior of the miners who work for the colony's giant mining corporation, the marshal decides to investigate. When he discovers that the general manager of the corporation is supplying the workforce with a dangerous, mind-altering amphetamine, the lawman prepares to battle it out with the villainous manager in a "High Noon"-like showdown.
