Entertainment Reviews:

Perhaps over-gruesome in spots, this is a recommendable British drama about the Mau Mau terrorism in East Africa. Full Review

Simply to exploit the dramatic potentials of violence and mistrust in the present situation in Kenya is not enough; and Simba, though its intentions may be more serious, achieves little more than this. Full Review

Description by OLDIES.com:

"SIMBA is the high mark of attainment in the cinematographic records of adventure in Africa -- the classic land of mystery, thrills and savage drama..."

Released on January 23, 1928, Simba: The King of the Beasts astonishes with some of the most spectacular images of Africa's peoples and wildlife ever recorded. Filmed over a four year span between 1924 and 1927, this rare documentary follows the world-famous explorers, Martin and Osa Johnson, on their second trip to the continent. Their goal: to chronicle the life of the mighty lion (or, in the native tongue, "simba".) Primarily filmed while on foot safaris using a tripod, the Johnsons' up close and personal encounters with the wild beasts of Africa still have the power to shock and amaze. In the movie's most memorable sequence, Osa brings down a charging rhinoceros with one well-aimed shot. In addition to its spectacular thrills, Simba is a valuable historical document, capturing the lost cultures of the Boran, Samburu, Turkana and Meru tribes. Martin & Osa would return to the big screen in 1930 with their first sound film, Across the World with Mr. and Mrs. Johnson.

This fully-authorized edition of Simba: The King of the Beasts is issued in conjunction with the Martin and Osa Johnson Safari Museum. A bonus postcard is included.
