With its share of flaws, Tombs of the Blind Dead is a fun, spooky, and memorable addition to the world of cinematic horror.

While nearly all of the Italian zombie films were one shade of awful or another, Tombs is a good film, even a great one: one of the highlights of 1970s Spanish cinema and among the very best examples of its oft-indefensible genre.

an elegiac counter-vision that is much more fanciful than Night of the Living Dead dand wholly continental.

It offers several interesting moments, such as mixing the dead with vampirism. [Full Review in Spanish]

Paces along with a sense of business-as-usual obligation when it would benefit most from turning the trash meter up to eleven.

Product Description:
The scent of a nubile camper awakens the corpses of the ancient order of Templars--a horde of 13th century crusaders blinded and executed for heresy--from their 600-year slumber. Revived and hungry, the sightless zombies rely on their ears to hunt down their victims, and unlike most undead, who stumble about in slow-moving hordes, the Templars ride horses and even trains in pursuit of the sweet, sweet flesh of the living. In the hands of a lesser filmmaker, this premise would come across as laughable, but Amando de Ossorio effectively creates a chilling, creepy movie. Sequel: RETURN OF THE BLIND DEAD.
