Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 3/5 --
It's fine in its way, a fond and silly salute to pub crawls, old friends, crap cars, roundabouts, British eccentricity and keeping your head in a crisis -- it's just terribly hit-and-miss.

The good news is that the savvy apocalypse comedy The World's End is armed with the notorious wit from proven collaborators in writer-director Edgar Wright ('Scott Pilgrim vs. The World') and actor/writer Simon Pegg and Nick Frost.

The World's End is thoroughly likable, a little bittersweet and sometimes gleefully, cartoonishly fun. Any movie with a ridiculous robot fight in a pub is, on some level, all right by me.

The film relies far less heavily on pop culture reference and cheap Comic-Con leaning fan service, in favor of a deeply personal tale of friendship and growing up.

As in their previous comedies, Pegg and Frost play men who refuse to stop acting like boys. But these pint-swilling Peter Pans also know how to work the heart and the brain for belly laughs.

The World's End marks the third part of Pegg and Wright's self-described "Cornetto trilogy." It's an appropriate moniker. With this final film they've slowed down a bit, grown up a lot. And saved the richest bite until last.

All the actors are not only superb, but through all the mayhem, hilarity and terror, the leads build multi-dimensional roles we grow to care about and genuinely hope survive.

Product Description:
Five lifelong friends reunite to complete a historic pub crawl from their youth, and find that reaching the fabled World's End tavern will be no simple undertaking while they also fight for the future of all mankind. Twenty years ago, Gary King (Simon Pegg) and his pals embarked on the ultimate drinking marathon. But the beer got the best of them, and they failed to drink their final pint at the World's End pub. Now, as die-hard rebel Gary approaches middle age, he summons his old friends back to their hometown for another round. With each pint down, Gary and the gang take another step toward reconciling with the past. Yet just when it starts to look like their goal is in sight, the pals realize that a much larger struggle is currently taking place, and that the future seems particularly grim -- not only for them, but for the entire human race. Nick Frost, Paddy Considine, Martin Freeman, Eddie Marsan, and Rosamund Pike co-star in the final chapter of Edgar Wright's "Three Flavors Cornetto Trilogy," which began with 2004's SHAUN OF THE DEAD and continued in 2007's HOT FUZZ.
