Maestro Simon Rattle, who helped the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra achieve international acclaim as its principal conductor from 1980-1998, conducts three astonishing pieces of modern music: Hans Werner Henze's "A Tempest (Rounds for the Orchestra)," Simon Holt's "Sunrise' Yellow Noise" with soloist Lisa Milne (soprano), and Messiaen's "Eclairs sur l'Au-dela."

This concert was recorded live from the Cologne Philharmonic during the Music Triennale. Charismatic maestro Simon Rattle led the City of Birmingham Symphony Orchestra to international acclaim during his years as the orchestra's Principal Conductor and Music Director, 1980-98, and still maintains a close association with the orchestra. A passionate champion of twentieth century music, Rattle conducts the CBSO in a program comprised of Hans Werner Henze's "A Tempest (Rounds for the Orchestra)," Simon Holt's "Sunrise' Yellow Noise" with soloist Lisa Milne (soprano), and Messiaen's "Eclairs sur l'Au-dela."
