Rating: 3/4 -- Even if you don't know a wren from a grackle, there are pleasures here.

Rating: 2/4 -- The movie keeps coming back to the achingly unfunny Phonce and his several silly subplots.

Rating: 1.5/4 -- Rendered bland and frustrating by its endless attempts to make the odd odder. Full Review

Rating: 2/4 -- With Rare Birds, as with The Shipping News before it, an attempt is made to transplant a Hollywood star into Newfoundland's wild soil -- and The Rock once again resists the intrusion. Full Review

Rating: 74/100 -- Its almost too-spectacular coastal setting distracts slightly from an eccentric and good-naturedly aimless story.

Product Description:

Chef Dave Purcell (William Hurt) is at the end of his rope--his marriage has just ended and his restaurant is failing miserably. Luckily for Dave, his wacky, scheming neighbor and friend, Alphonse (Andy Jones), has cooked up a scheme to drum up business for his eatery. After the two men fake the sighting of a rare bird near the restaurant, hungry birdwatchers are soon lining up in droves! In the spirt of LOCAL HERO, director Sturla Gunnarsson populates this small Newfoundland town with eccentric, yet believable characters, creating a tight balance of sweetness and comedy.
