Entertainment Reviews:
[I]t's hard not to feel that even at a little over two hours, there's a rushed, assembly-line quality to how "Trial by Fire" wants to work our emotions.

Los Angeles Times
Rating: 2/4 --
The film plods at points, trudging along, and there are a few misguided narrative 'devices' tacked on.

The movie is painstakingly well made and murderously hard to sit through.

New York Magazine/Vulture
It's a powerful enough viewing experience, but it doesn't leave you with much hope for what to do about injustice.

The Public (Buffalo)
Rating: 3.5/5 --
Earnest, old-fashioned social-justice drama focuses on the death penalty from the 'what if we execute an innocent person?' angle, with hugely engaging performances by Jack O'Connell and Laura Dern.

Detroit News
Despite its clumsy first-act emphasis on exposition and excessive length, the story is important and Dern deserves a nomination for almost single-handedly saving the film with her committed and engaging performance.

Product Description:
Set in Texas, this true-life story follows the plight of Cameron Todd Willingham (Jack O'Connell), a penniless ex-criminal and father who is accused of murdering his three children by arson in 1992. Arrested and sentenced to death, Willingham's only ally is Elizabeth Gilbert (Laura Dern), a single mom from Houston who fights endlessly for his cause, throughout his imprisonment. Gilbert tries her best to take on the state to reveal evidence to support Willingham's innocence, but she may be up against an unbeatable enemy as well as the ticking clock. Written by Geoffrey Fletcher.
