Big Miller was not only similar in size to Jimmy Rushing and Big Joe Turner, but sounded like them also. These Collectables reissues from the vaults of Columbia Records show a definite kinship to Rushing and Turner in his vocal style and blend of blues and swing. Big Miller also showed his prowess on a number of instruments, including drums, harmonica, trombone, and bass. While not up to the standards of his influences, these jump blues renditions of "Am I Blue," "I Gotta Right to Sing the Blues," "Runnin Wild," and "I'm Goin Fishin" will be enjoyed by both the collector and casual listener alike. ~ Al Campbell
