After several years at school Betty (Peggy O'Day) returns to her Kentucky home and the only family she has ever known, Daddy Bill (Franics Ford) and Jimmy, a pair of retired army scouts. The pair is surprised to see the little girl they remember has grown into a woman. Betty's own hopes are put aside when Bill's domineering sister decides Betty is going to marry her son Jack. The wedding is planned to coincide with the upcoming Kentucky Derby yet circumstances place everyone's happiness on the performance of Bill's prize horse Dona. Music score by David Knudtson.
