You could watch it on mute and still be blown away by the action bits.

Poorly lit, crooked camera angles (that didn't match one shot from the next) make the film nearly unwatchable.

Nicely gets the job done as either a showcase for Jet Li's athletic talents or an undemanding blast of action and mayhem.

The action sequences, hyperkinetic almost to a fault, make you forget they're saying really cheesy things that you hope were mistranslated.

Weak plot, no logic, and bad dubbing to boot. But "Black Mask" has one of the highest energy quotients you'll find in any action thriller around.

"Black Mask" (Hak hap) is an all-out non-stop Hong Kong action film that is better than most films of the martial arts genre.

Product Description:
Jet Li is the Black Mask. Michael (Li) was an integral part of Project 701, an experimental government program that created superhuman men and women and turned them into indestructible fighting machines. He escapes that dangerous world and instead works as a simple librarian, changing his name to Simon. But soon he is drawn right back in when his former master turns against the government that betrayed Project 701 and demands that Michael rejoin the squad to help carry out his evil plan to take over the Hong Kong drug trade.
Directed by Daniel Lee, BLACK MASK is an action-packed comic book brought to life, filled with the requisite explosions, motorcycle stunts, black-and-white flashbacks, laser weaponry, killer CDs, and some major carnage. The terrific martial arts sequences were choreographed by the great Yuen Wo Ping, who was responsible for the fight scenes in THE MATRIX and CROUCHING TIGER, HIDDEN DRAGON. Michael's final showdown with his former commander is electrifying--literally. Li's charming good looks and innocent smile lead the way in this exciting tale produced by Tsui Hark.
