The Malloys' filmmaking never rises to the level of the actors' nuanced performances. The actors are energized, but the camera enervates. Full Review

The directors get some melancholic atmosphere out of their visuals but don't have the scene sense to build their actors' committed performances into compelling through-lines of seaside personality disintegration.

Product Description:

A teenage girl (Maika Monroe) and her family move from the Midwest to an affluent Southern California community. She soon learns to surf, which gives her the solace she needs to deal with her parents' crumbling marriage and the toll it takes on her brother (Cody Fern). Brendan and Emmett Malloy directed this family drama, which was adapted from the novel by Joy Nicholson. Jennifer Garner, Justin Kirk, and Noah Silver co-star.
