Product Description:

AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic Album series with a re-mastered second 2CD release from Horace Silver, complete with original artwork, liner notes and personnel details 'New Faces New Sounds'; 'Horace Silver & The Jazz Messengers'; 'Horace-Scope' and 'The Tokyo Blues'. Some artists are just so brilliant and so prolific that just one 4 Classic Album Set is not enough for them, and we want to hear more of their great music! Mr. Horace Silver is one such artist! Following on from the runaway success of our first 'Silver Set' (AMSC1260), we are very excited to be announcing this Second Set! Pianist, arranger and composer, Horace Silver undoubtedly falls into the category of Jazz Greats. Perhaps even one of the most prolific of the jazz greats when you look at his CV! Horace Silver has played a key role as sideman for nearly all the great names in jazz as well as spending an unprecedented 28 years as a leader of his own band on the Blue Note label. A list of great players he has accompanied would have to include Stan Getz (who gave Horace his first big break when he joined Getz in 1950), Lester Young, Coleman Hawkins, Lou Donaldson (who helped develop his understanding of be-bop), Sonny Stitt, Art Farmer, Miles Davis, Sonny Rollins, Donald Byrd, Clifford Jordan and Milt Jackson. And that's without mentioning The Jazz Messengers with whom Horace played alongside co-founder Art Blakey and with men such as Hank Mobley and Louis Hayes. Here we feature Horace in a very early 1952 Trio setting where he is joined by Curly Russell, Gene Ramey and Art Blakey. We also feature Horace in his classic Quintet format where he can be heard with the likes of Hank Mobley, Kenny Dorham, Doug Watkins, Art Blakey, Blue Mitchell, Gene Taylor, Roy Brooks and on the 'Horace-Scope' and 'The Tokyo Blues' albums another chance to hear the rather fine and largely unknown tenor saxophonist named Junior Cook. The wait is over, the promise fulfilled, more Horace has arrived!
