4 stars out of 4 -- It is as engaged with its well-executed action scenes as it is with its moments of tenderness and quiet....The filmmakers have made a fiercely political movie...

3.5 stars out of 4 -- [E]pic....An explosively entertaining hip-hop biopic that raps home truths about race and police brutality as timely now as they were during the 1980s in Compton, California.

Rating: 3.5/4 -- There is so much going on in the lyrical wordplay of the music, much deeper than the critics who tend to focus on its violent imagery suggests. Full Review

[An] enthralling, energized, 147-minute tribute to N.W.A....[The actors] deliver strong, memorable work that transcends mere imitation.

Rating: C+ -- What we get is a visually thrilling, musically electric rise of an important band, followed by a pillow-soft landing into trite cliché. Full Review

Product Description:

Entrenched in the racial tumult of Los Angeles in the mid-1980's, a group of aspiring rappers banded together to revolutionize the global consumption of hip-hop and popular culture. NWA was born out of racial frustration and the disadvantaged economics of their South Central neighborhood. F. Gary Gray directs this biopic about the rise to stardom for the act that earned the moniker of "The World's Most Dangerous Group", featuring Ice Cube's son O'Shea Jackson Jr. playing the role of his father, Corey Hawkins as Dr. Dre, and Jason Mitchell as the late Eazy-E.
