Rating: C+ -- While Fiddler is a bumbler, he is not stupid, and actually makes a few good decisions. Vann is clever dealing with criminals, but he has some emotional shortcomings. They are an interesting pair, and in this genre, that is what really counts. Full Review

Rating: 2.5/4 -- At a zippy 83 minutes (including an ingenious title sequence that sets up the crime), The Man could be a lot worse. But with this kind of talent, it should be a lot better. Full Review

If the fart jokes had been cut out, if the ultimate identity were less of an anticlimax, if Levy had had some context, if Jackson showed the slightest rapport with his co-star... No, it's no good; The Man is a dud. Move along people, nothing to see here. Full Review

Description by OLDIES.com:

Andy Fidler (Eugene Levy) has a cheery outlook on life. Even a less than exciting job selling dental products can't wipe the smile from his face. But when he winds up in Detroit for a dental convention and is wrongly identified as an arms dealer, his smile is in danger of disappearing for good. Tough-as-nails cop Derrick Vann (Samuel L. Jackson) has set up an operation to catch the gang who run with the villain Fidler has been mistaken for. Eager to find him after the group of gun runners put a permanent end to his partner's career, Vann concocts a screwball scheme in which Fidler will impersonate the crook he resembles, while also trying to shake the Internal Affairs agents who are closely trailing him.
