At the time Brahms started composing his Clarinet Quintet, only a few works had been composed for this type of ensemble and he modeled his after Mozart. Brahms wrote his Clarinet Quintet Op.115 specifically for the famed German clarinetist Richard Mühlfeld. The Piano Quintet Op.34, modeled after Schumann, was dedicated to Her Royal Highness Princess Anna of Hesse. Both works are performed here by The Budapest String Quartet with featured soloists Davis Oppenheim and Rudolf Serkin.
