Rating: 4/5 -- Lee Daniels comes good with this rich and politically subversive tale of a long-serving White House butler. Full Review

It's not an interpretation of actual history as much as it is a reduced revision of movie history. Full Review

Strongly acted by a cast top-lined by Forest Whitaker, Oprah Winfrey and David Oyelowo, THE BUTLER has its share of strong dramatic moments in a story inspired by the real-life career of a White House employee...

Rating: 2/5 -- Feels so dehydrogenated and polyunsaturated that an apter title might have been Lee Daniels' I Can't Believe It's Not Butler. Full Review

Though The Butler's tidy sentiments can be cloying, it's hard to remain unmoved-and unimpressed by the stubbornly authentic performances by Whitaker and Oprah, which will likely be remembered at Oscar time. Full Review

[A] brilliantly truthful film on a subject that is usually shrouded in wishful thinking, mythmongering and outright denial....Mr. Daniels has told the story of the civil rights movement in the bold colors of costume pageantry and the muted tones of domestic drama.

Product Description:

Director Lee Daniels (PRECIOUS) teams up with Emmy Award-winning screenwriter Danny Strong to tell the remarkable story of White House butler Eugene Allen (played by Oscar-winner Forest Whitaker), who served eight U.S. presidents over the course of 30 years, and witnessed sweeping social change during his three decades of service at 1600 Pennsylvania Avenue. Inspired by Wil Haygood's Washington Post article, the film features Robin Williams as Dwight D. Eisenhower, James Marsden as John F. Kennedy, Liev Schreiber as Lyndon B. Johnson, John Cusack as Richard M. Nixon, and Alan Rickman as Ronald Reagan. Oprah Winfrey, Cuba Gooding Jr., Terrence Howard, Jane Fonda, David Oyelowo, Lenny Kravitz, Melissa Leo, and Vanessa Redgrave co-star.
