OTHER COVERS is an EP consisting of seven songs recorded during the sessions for James Taylor's 2008 album, COVERS, but left off of that release. Along with a ballad-tempo version of "Oh What A Beautiful Mornin'" from the Rodger & Hammerstein musical OKLAHOMA! and a rocked-up take on Tom Waits's "Shiver Me Timbers," OTHER COVERS consists largely of vintage R&B tunes. These range from the Silhouettes' doo-wop classic "Get A Job" to Chuck Berry's "Memphis" to the 1960s soul powerhouses "In the Midnight Hour" (originally by Wilson Pickett) and "Knock On Wood" (popularized by Eddie Floyd). A nice adjunct to the COVERS album, OTHER COVERS showcases another side of the mellow singer-songwriter.
