Eternally cool Robert Mitchum plays a world-weary private investigator hired by a wealthy industrialist's wife (Jaclyn Smith) to locate her missing husband. The woman seems anxious about her husband's disappearance but in reality knows more than she is letting on about his whereabouts--it was she who helped her lover murder him and then dispose of the body. But when it seems the missing man has returned from the dead to claim justice, the deceitful wife could very well become the next victim of her own double-crossing.
