Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 3/4 --
Phil Morrison's direction and choices aren't as bold or as inventive as his styles in Junebug. The story doesn't lend itself to those traits that made him a quiet sensation in the mid-2000s.

"All Is Bright" is reminiscent of those utterly forgettable Canadian movies bankrolled on the government dime in the name of cultural preservation.

I wish I could give four stars to Giamatti's big, sad eyes and outrageous Civil War beard.

Rating: 2/4 --
Morrison films this redemptive story - which has some hard-to-swallow moments - with a dusty gray palette that suits its characters and masquerades the story's more obvious sentimentality.

"All Is Bright" isn't - and was never meant to be - a major cinematic gift to audiences. But as a little stocking stuffer, and nostalgic recollection of how movies used to be, it often has its own small and quite welcome delights.

Giamatti and Hawkins, in particular, make the watching a little brighter, the bitter a little sweeter.

Product Description:
Paul Rudd and Paul Giamatti star as a pair of shady French Canadians who scheme to make some quick cash by selling Christmas trees in New York City. Cynical con-artist Dennis (Giamatti) has just been released from a Montreal prison when he learns that local ladies man Rene (Rudd) has been romancing his ex-wife. Though the pair trades blows in a bar fight, remorseful Rene extends an invitation for Dennis to join him in traveling to New York City, and selling Christmas trees to the high-rolling locals. Just as the pair arrives in the city and stakes their claim on a busy street corner, however, a chance encounter between Dennis and the wife of a wealthy dentist leads to a whiole new get-rich-quick scheme. Sally Hawkins co-stars in a comedy written by Melissa James Gibson, and directed by Phil Morrison (JUNEBUG).
