Description by

This vocal quartet from outside Detroit were masters of mid-'60s blue-eyed Soul - their harmonies and ability to Doo-Wop are legendary. While still in college, they had their biggest hit - "Oh How Happy", which nearly cracked the top of the charts in 1966. They hit the charts twice more that year with "Lonely Summer" and "Happiness", all of which are included in this sweet-sounding collection of their best.

Product Description:

As part of Collectables' Golden Classics series, Shades of Blue are spotlighted on previously released material originally recorded for Impact in the '60s. The 14 tracks include "Funny Kind of Love," "All I Want Is Love," "He's Got the Whole World in His Hands," and their biggest hit, "Oh How Happy." Considering the obscurity of CDs available by the vocal group, this affordable disc should please both casual fans and collectors. ~ Al Campbell

Suprisingly Soulful Music Lover: from Gulfport, FL -- August, 17, 2017

I'll bet many of us thought that the song "Oh How Happy " was performed by a black group when it came out. I know I did. This song wasn't a fluke. There are many well- written and well-sung songs in this set. Even though there is one female out of four vocalists, there is much use of girl-group type of harmonies used throughout. They might have had only one major hit, but they certainly had the goods for a talented group.

Shades of Blue- An out of print cd now found! Music Lover: from BRONX, NY US -- May, 26, 2017

The Shades of Blue and the Reflections have something in common! Both groups came from Livonia, Michigan and had a major hit to remember! The Reflections had Just like Romeo &Juliet in 1964 and The Shades of Blue had Oh How Happy in 1966! Written by Edwin Starr, Oh How Happy took the Shades of Blue into the big time appearing on teen shows like Swingin Time and Where The Action Is! Unfortunately, the group could not follow the success of Oh How Happy and disbanded a couple of years later! So if you like beach music crossed with bubblegum soul with a touch of Motown, then you will love this cd! I surely did!
