Excelsior
3.5 stars out of 5 -- Kidman brings stirring compassion and a growing strength to a woman who learns about herself the more she learns about her son. And Crowe is magnificent as a believer who can’t quite storm the barricades his faith erects around a true reconciliation with his son.
Rolling Stone
Rating: 2.5/5 --
Boy Erased has noble intentions and a good heart, but it leaves nary an imprint. And, for a film with such inherently harrowing and emotionally charged subject matter, that is almost unforgivable.

Isolated Nation
The director put together an exceptional ensemble. [Russell] Crowe and [Lucas] Hedges are remarkable and [Nicole] Kidman is incredible as the Mother who finally stands up for herself and chooses love over dogma.

Movies and Shakers
Edgerton shows an admirable sense of restraint, even when hitting all the usual beats. He includes moments of quiet introspection for the characters and the audience alike...
Variety
Crowe and Kidman each get their Oscar-reel moments opposite Hedges in scenes that, rightly, unambiguously demonstrate on whom the burden of change really lies.

Rating: 3/5 --
As a piece of cinema, it lacks that extra emotional drive that pushes a film from memorable to unforgettable

Product Description:
The narrative set in Arkansas, follows the plight of Jared (Lucas Hedges) a young man questioning his sexuality in a staunchly religious household. After a traumatic event, Jared is ‘outed' by his college crush (Joe Alwyn) to the horror of his God-fearing parents. His father Marshall (Russell Crowe) a Baptist preacher and his Mother, a more sympathetic but dutifully serving wife, decide his only hope is being sent to a gay conversion camp in order to reverse his assumed sexuality. Written, directed, co-produced and co-starring Joel Edgerton.
