Garnet Mimms sang in the gospel groups The Evening Stars, Norfolk Four, and the Harmonizing Four before he formed his first group The Gainors in 1958. But he didn't achieve great commercial success until he joined together with The Enchanters in 1961. They had a #1 R&B and Top 10 Pop hit with "Cry Baby" in 1963.
