GOLDEN CLASSICS is a great compilation of Ike and Tina Turner's earliest work, originally recorded for the Sue label between 1960 and 1962. Highlights include "A Fool in Love," which marks Tina's first solo recording solo, and the often-covered "I Think It's Gonna Work Out Fine," a sly sexually charged call and response number deliberately patterned along the lines of Mickey and Sylvia's "Love is Strange" (Mickey "Guitar" Baker actually subs for Ike on the vocal). Most of the production is appropriately gritty, but overall this is a textbook look at the evolution of R&B into soul.
