Rating: 4/5 -- Frantz is the work of a rascal, but a rascal in an unusually reflective frame of mind. Even with its mysteries solved, you can't help but keep turning it over. Full Review

Rating: B -- "Frantz" offers a sympathetic, if dark, look at the awful wake of war, at the cost of institutional violence, as well as the cost of surviving. Full Review

As usual, Ozon was solid behind the camera in a classic (re)tale about remorse, forgiveness, and passion. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- François Ozon is a master at taking apart the French chattering classes, but here he attempts an almost classical piece of film-making in black and white, French and German, a tangled tale of love and friendship. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- For Ozon, Frantz is an intriguing change of pace, a period piece in another language, and with straightforward but evident depth... But you'll be hard pressed to remember much about it beyond the stirring presence of Paula Beer. Full Review

Product Description:

A German woman (Paula Beer) grieving the death of her lover in World War I is shocked when his grave is visited by a Frenchman (Pierre Niney), who claims he was friends with her beloved before the war. The two bond over their shared connection, but when he returns to France, she decides to follow him in order to understand who he really is. Directed by François Ozon, FRANTZ is a remake of Ernst Lubitsch's antiwar drama BROKEN LULLABY.
