2013 two CD set containing Brazilian legend Joao Gilberto's famous trilogy of albums which served as blueprints for Bossa Nova, recorded between 1958 and 1961 and produced by Ant“nio Carlos Jobim. Features his celebrated debut, Chega de Saudade, and the fine albums that followed, O amor, o sorriso e a flor (Love, a Smile and a Flower) and Joao Gilberto. The albums combine a splendid repertoire of Jobim, Vinicius de Moraes and Carlos Lyra originals and Gilberto's interpretations of songs from Brazil's musical past. These recordings encapsulate the full range of Joao Gilberto's singular style; the intimate voice and his innovative, linear approach to the guitar that revolutionized both Brazilian and international popular music. Disc Two is devoted to rarities and curios from Gilberto's musical archives; his two singles with the vocal ensemble Os Garotas da Lua and his 1952 debut solo 78. His Odeon EP featuring his interpretations of songs from Black Orpheus, his recordings for the soundtrack of Italian filmmaker Steno's, Copacabana Palace and his Outra Vez from that historic night at Carnegie Hall when bossa introduced itself to America.
