Rating: 3/4 -- ... squirm-worthy survival adventure ... Go ahead, take the plunge. 'The Reef' is an authentic nail-biter (toe-nibbler?) that lives up to its fun come-on: 'Pray that you drown first.' Full Review

Rating: 3.5/5 -- The Reef is that rarest of treats: an "animal attack" thriller that is as dramatic as it is horrific. Full Review

The tropes of survival (or otherwise) in a watery wilderness may be familiar from Open Water, Adrift and even Andrew Traucki's own crocodile-themed debut Black Water - but when directed as thrillingly as this, these tropes prove all too easy to swallow.

For most of the time, Traucki manages the horror well, with the menace inferred. Particularly spine-chilling is the scene in which Walshe-Howling is exploring the air pocket in the upturned boat. Sound tells the story. Full Review

Rating: 1/5 -- Terrible scripting, unconvincing acting, wonky continuity and feeble atmospherics induce an overpowering feeling of tedium that cancels out any potential for true terror. Full Review

Product Description:

A yacht outing to Australia's Great Barrier Reef leads to a harrowing struggle for survival in this deep sea shocker from BLACK WATER director Andrew Traucki. The sun was shining and the waters were calm when Luke and his friends set sail in their luxury yacht. But when jagged rocks tear a hole in the hull, the terrified passengers are forced to choose between remaining on board in hopes of being rescued and braving the shark-infested waters for a 12 mile swim to the nearest island. The moment everyone dives into the ocean, however, a massive Great White Shark picks up their scent, and begins methodically dragging them down into the icy depths, one-by-one.
