Double the Tomlin & Midler cannot save silly doppelganger gimmickry.

Underrated farce ... Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin are terrific.

Creative Loafing
It serves as a showcase for the wonderful, if diverse, comic talents of Bette Midler and Lily Tomlin.

Fred Ward plays dumb hicks a lot, but never with quite this much comedic energy.

Slightly funny Tomlin, Midler comedy.

an oddity of incessant proportions, a comedy with few laughs but many unwarranted chuckles, which lives and dies on the notion its silly premise will at least be vague enough to provide its actors with great opportunities to improvise.

People running into each other can be funny, but when they just miss, what are we supposed to do? Slap our knees and say, "Lord a-mighty, they dern near ran into each other and wouldn't that have been funny!"

Description by OLDIES.com:
Mr. Jones' name is mud with his wife when mud is the only thing bubbling up from his oil well investment.
Product Description:
Not a remake of the classic Laurel and Hardy 2-reel silent of the same name, BIG BUSINESS was an early entry in 20th Century-Fox's JONES FAMILY series. Mr. Jones (Jed Prouty) invests his life savings in an oil business, at the behest of football star Allan Lane. Neither Jones nor Lane are aware that the oil stock is worthless, and that their money has ended up in the pockets of racketeers. Awareness dawns when the oil wells yield only muddy water. Jones' oldest son (Kenny Howell) comes to the rescue of the hapless investors, while Mrs. Jones (Spring Byington) dispenses the "I told you so"s.
