At times it is quite creative and others it feels way too familiar. While the monsters' very presence and actions don't make a lick of sense, they are at least uniquely conceived, even if the supporting characters are many times unnecessary formulaic...

There's a warm, odd kind of comfort here...It's not 100% natural, but it's close enough to pass for it when it hits the brain like a pleasant memory.

Fanboys of the Universe
Abetted by a disarming, charming O’Brien, liberated from the dourness of the last dystopia he battled in the MAZE RUNNER movies, Matthews delivers a daffily lightweight throwback to the teen action-adventures of the ’80s and ’90s.

A post-apocalyptic monster movie with a surprisingly large amount of emotion. For me, this film consistently over-delivered on every single front.

Product Description:
Seven years after the Monsterpocalypse, Joel Dawson (Dylan O'Brien), along with the rest of humanity, has been living underground ever since giant creatures took control of the land. After reconnecting over radio with his high school girlfriend Aimee (Jessica Henwick), who is now 80 miles away at a coastal colony, Joel begins to fall for her again. As Joel realizes that there's nothing left for him underground, he decides against all logic to venture out to Aimee, despite all the dangerous monsters that stand in his way. The action adventure also stars Michael Rooker and Ariana Greenblatt.
