Rating: A- -- Made at the height of popularity of Astaire and Rogers, this elegant musical boasts glorious score from the Gershwins, including the songThey Can't Take That away From Me, which was nominated for an Oscar. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- ...the plot is what makes this Astaire/Rogers pairing frustrating, the dances slightly undercut by that. Full Review

Rating: 60/100 -- It's about innuendo and devious plots (though, of course, the stories are always essentially backdrops to showcasing the Astaire-and-Rogers show), and while it has plenty of amusing moments and some good musical numbers, it feels stiff at times, Full Review

Description by OLDIES.com:

In their seventh movie, Fred Astaire and Ginger Rogers croon, swoon and sway to a glorious George and Ira Gershwin score. It's time to "Slap That Bass" when Fred taps to the mechanized rhythms of a luxury liner's Art Deco engine room. The two lace up roller skates and - in a sequence requiring 150 takes - spin through "Let's Call The Whole Thing Off." The title tune finale, the Oscar nominee "They Can't Take That Away From Me," "They All Laughed" and more great numbers spread the melodic wealth, as ballet star Petrov (Astaire) and musical revue sensation Linda (Rogers) decide to wed and publicly divorce to quash persistent rumors of a secret marriage. Once tied, however, perhaps they shouldn't call the whole thing off...

Product Description:

Astaire and Rogers engage in romantic antics aboard a luxury ocean liner while dancing their way through such Gershwin tunes as "Let's Call the Whole Thing Off," "They All Laughed," "They Can't Take that Away From Me" and many others. Academy Award Nominations: Best Song ("They Can't Take That Away From Me").

Description by Warner Home Video:

To keep musical-comedy star Linda Keene from retiring to marry, her manager Arthur Mille, suggests to the press that she's already married to Petrov, the ballet dancer. The two ultimately decide to marry so that they can have very public divorce and clear the air, but true love blossoms between them.
