Rating: 3/5 -- Sanya Malhotra's reserve does suggest reserves - of thought, emotion, romantic depth and perplexity. But the script wanders like a thing distracted. Full Review

THE PHOTOGRAPH remains consistently pleasant to watch, particularly when Meghie moves away from dramatic plotting and just lets Rae, Stanfield, Howery, and Parris riff on a wedding sartorial choice gone wrong.

This too-languidly-paced film lacks the emotional payoff of The Lunchbox, and rising newcomer Malhotra is not yet in Siddiqui's league. Full Review

Product Description:

Writer-director Stella Meghie's transgenerational romantic drama stars Issa Rae, LaKeith Stanfield, Chelsea Peretti, Lil Rel Howery, and Courtney B. Vance. The estranged daughter (Rae) of a famed photographer initiates a romantic relationship with an up-and-coming journalist (Stanfield) who is working on a story about her mother's life and artistic legacy after her sudden and unexpected death. The discovery of an old photograph in a safe-deposit box catalyzes a new perspective on the past, present, and future.
