Product Description:
Jimmy Cagney stars in this surprisingly progressive story of a teenage gang sent to reform school. There, the kids butt heads with their cruel warden, Thompson, and suffer at the hands of the corrupt institution. But when a mob figure, played by Cagney, is appointed Deputy Commissioner, he helps turn the system upside down. Now the kids are running things, and Thompson will have to pay! A unique film for the time, MAYOR OF HELL was heavily influenced by New Deal-era rhetoric.

MADE IN 1933, CAGNEY, AT THIS TIME, WAS KNOWN FOR HIS GANGSTER ROLES BUT FOR THIS MOVIE-HE ACTUALLY PLAYS A PRINCIPAL! IMAGINE THAT! THIS MOVIE WAS LATER REMADE AS CRIME SCHOOL WITH HUMPHREY BOGART BUT IT PALES IN COMPARISON TO THE MAYOR OF HELL! HIGHLY RECOMMENDED! CAGNEY IS THE BEST!
