Rating: 3/5 -- The period detail is reverent, every sweater and side-parting just-so. Yet the stifling design makes a good fit for the airless world in which Marcus is marooned, and the reminders of darkness and death at the edge of the film relieve the prettiness. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- Logan Lerman is superb, never off screen as fresh-faced Marcus - studious, solitary, intense, precociously intelligent yet emotionally naïve. Full Review

INDIGNATION might be dismissed as a small, exquisite period piece, but it is so precisely rendered that it gets deeply under your skin.

Schamus makes his directorial debut with INDIGNATION, for which he also wrote the screenplay, and he approaches the material with careful, almost fetishistic deliberation, a style that befits the 1950s backdrop while lulling the audience into a suitable sense of security before the final, agonizing twist.

4 stars out of 4 -- Schamus’ commitment to a style, and to the material, yields potent results. The cast cannot be commended enough...

Product Description:

A young Jewish atheist (Logan Lerman) attends college in 1951 Ohio, where he clashes with both the school's established social order and his overbearing parents' hopes for his future. At the same time, he falls for an attractive, complicated classmate named Olivia (Sarah Gadon). Tracy Letts, Danny Burstein, and Linda Emond co-star. Directed by James Schamus (who also adapted the script from the novel of the same name by Philip Roth), INDIGNATION made its world premiere at the 2016 Sundance Film Festival.
