Product Description:

Originally released in 1958, “Negro Prison Songs from the Mississippi State Penitentiary” documents musicologist Alan Lomax's 1947 recordings of prisoners at Mississippi State Penitentiary, also known as Parchman Farm, the oldest maximum security prison farm for men in the state of Mississippi. The recordings include interviews with prisoners, work songs and blues both solo and in groups. Featured here is the original album as it was originally presented in 1958, with all selections newly remastered.
