3 stars out of 4 -- The film is most effective when it’s portraying the dynamics of its teenaged universe. Screenwriter Jessica Sharzer provides enough space for the actors to flesh out and inhabit their standard teen-movie trope characters, and it’s easy to identify with whatever type you were in high school.

Rating: 3/5 -- Even though it isn't the most well-written movie of the year or anything, the movie's primary demographic of teenagers might actually take away something useful regarding how their Internet behavior affects people in the real world Full Review

Rating: 2.5/5 -- Had Nerve stuck to the intrigue around online games, it could have been an efficiently entertaining piece of cinema. Full Review

Rating: 4/5 -- Taking its name from a fictional smartphone game in which contestants roam New York completing challenges and are whittled down until only one remains, Nerve is basically Pokémon Go meets Highlander. Full Review

Rating: 3/5 -- Nerveplays more as a survival-of-the-fittest lesson - a Darwinism-fueled cautionary tale for the GoPro generation. Full Review
Fresh Fiction

Rating: 2/5 -- The denouement is ridiculous, the conclusion sketchy and the script's attempts to be hip are, in the end, slightly pathetic. Full Review

Product Description:

A high-school wallflower named Vee (Emma Roberts) decides to participate in an online game that involves completing challenges and dares throughout New York City. Although she is initially thrilled by the game's antics -- and the fact that it asks her to partner with a handsome stranger (Dave Franco) for some of the tasks -- the experience eventually escalates into a life-or-death struggle. Juliette Lewis, Kimiko Glenn, and Emily Meade co-star. Directed by Henry Joost and Ariel Schulman (CATFISH).
