Product Description:
This sprawling, epic-length documentary compilation rests on the thesis that the prototypical aircraft carrier was the most invaluable military weapon put to use during 20th century military conflicts - one that could "project" massive aircraft fleets over enormous expanses of land and sea, carry out surprise attacks on military opponents, and - significantly - vanish from sight as needed. Nowhere was this more apparent than in the Pacific Theater of World War II, where the U.S. defeat of Imperial Japan owed a great deal to the use of carriers. On a thematic level, the programs in this collection are organized chronologically, so that they collectively depict the different uses and accomplishments of carriers in the Pacific from 1941 through 1945. The four individual programs featured herein include: "U.S. Naval Air Power: 1941-42," "Warbirds II - The Big Blue Blanket: U.S. Naval Air Power in the Pacific 1942-43," "U.S. Naval Air Power: 1943-44," and "U.S. Naval Air Power: 1944-45."
