Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: B --
Fang is directed by Bateman with a sensitivity that the story's sour whimsy doesn't quite deserve.

"The Family Fang" is kind of messy but also fun and touching; it's a definite step forward for Bateman as a director ...

Bateman knows his fractured family well, but "Fang" doesn't give him enough to chew on. The characters are all scarred, but the film doesn't leave a mark.

[I]t’s a measure of Bateman’s skill in front of and behind the camera that his performance here betrays nary a shred of actorly indulgence....He beautifully with Kidman, who does some of her earthiest, most unaffected work...

Rating: 3/5 --
No masterpiece, certainly, but substantially more interesting than comparable productions such as Captain Fantastic.

"The Family Fang" is a fairly solid feature that explores familial relationships in a different context. It also questions the dedication to art by way of sacrificing personal relationships for it.

THE FAMILY FANG is largely noteworthy for the specific place it locates generational resentment....There’s an interesting reactionary quality in the way the movie makes conceptual art its straw man, standing in for Irresponsible Parenting By The Counterculture.

Product Description:
Caleb and Camille Fang (Christopher Walken and Maryann Plunkett) are a couple famous for public, avant-garde comedy skits that featured their children, previously known as Child A and Child B. Now adults with successful showbiz careers of their own, Annie (Nicole Kidman) and Baxter Fang (Jason Bateman) are estranged from their parents and lament their exploitation as kids. When Caleb and Camille go missing, Annie and Baxter reunite at their childhood home to determine if their parents are truly in trouble, or if their disappearance is their final stunt. Bateman directed this off-kilter family drama, which received its world premiere at the 2015 Toronto International Film Festival.
