Rating: 4/5 -- Overlit, staged like a high school play, but saved by the cast and Cole Porter songs

There is enough polish and melody here to make it an item worth catching, but it hardly measures up to the all-star potency of its participants. Full Review

Rating: 2/5 -- High Society...is as flimsy as a gossip-columnist's word, especially when it is documenting the weird behavior of the socially elite. Full Review

How can you not get a kick out of a movie featuring the always enthusiastic Louis Armstrong and his band jazzing things up?

Description by OLDIES.com:

The rich are generally different. But in matters of the heart, they're just as scatterbrained as the rest of us. Heiress Tracy Lord (Grace Kelly) is engaged to one man (John Lund), attracted to another (Frank Sinatra) and, just maybe, in love again with her ex-husband (Bing Crosby) in this effervescent musical reinvention of Philip Barry's play The Philadelphia Story featuring an endlessly delightful Cole Porter score.

Product Description:

Porter adds the tunes and Sinatra adds the ring-a-ding to this swinging musical remake of The Philadelphia Story. A prim socialite (Kelly in her last role before becoming Her Serene Highness) finds herself in a the middle of a comic mess when her ex-husband (Crosby) and an amorous reporter (Sinatra) come to cover the preparations for her upcoming wedding. Adding to the tension is her skirt-chasing father, who's also returned home for the ceremony. The resulting confusion--and several potent drinks--melt the ice princess's frosty exterior. It isn't long before she sees through her society-climbing fiancee, and warms up again to her crooning jazz musician ex-husband. Rare chance to see rivals Crosby and Sinatra together. Includes such hit numbers as "True Love," "You're Sensational," and "Did You Evah." Academy Award Nominations: 3, including Best Motion Picture Story.
