Product Description:

By any standard, few ancient peoples claim the uniqueness of the Celts. Though they checked in as an unduly wild and savage group, they also upheld a great level of romantic mysticism and gave rise to a group of languages that became some of the oldest living tongues on the European continent. As produced by Opus Television for S4C International and Rhyngwladol, the documentary miniseries THE CELTS examines the many different aspects of this societal group's history, lifestyle and culture. This package from the Kultur label brings into a single box set the entire CELTS series, with all six episodes as they originally aired. Episode One, IN THE BEGINNING, asks key questions about the identity of the Celts, where they came from, and what made their culture unique; Episode Two, HEROES IN DEFEAT, describes the transformation that took place after 400 B.C., when the Celts made the fateful decision to attack Rome and Delphi; Episode Three, THE SACRED GROVES, examines the mysticism and romance surrounding the Celts, and looks at the ways in which Celtic paganism have evolved into modern feast days; Episode Four, FROM CAMELOT TO CHRIST, looks at the historical truth (or lack thereof) belying Arthurian legends, and evaluates the alleged link between Arthur and contemporary Christian missionaries; Episode Five, LEGEND AND REALITY , travels to the year 1066, when the Normans arrived, and the Celtics were henceforth assimilated into England and France; and A DEAD SONG' visits the early 18th century, when the word "Celt" was first coined, Scotland unified itself with England, and the Celts continued to get pulled in the conflicting directions of assimilation and identity preservation.
