Sauter-Finegan Orchestra Four Classic Albums (2-CD)

AVID Jazz continues with its Four Classic album series with a re-mastered 2CD release by Sauter-Finegan Orchestra, complete with original artwork and liner notes. 'The Sound of Sauter-Finegan Orchestra'; 'Inside Sauter-Finegan'; 'Under Analysis' and 'Straight Down The Middle'. Born into a musical family in Rumson, New Jersey, Bill Finegan underwent a rigorous musical training from a young age and was so advanced that he was even teaching Nelson Riddle the mysteries of orchestration while they were still at school together! He began his illustrious career in the forties initially playing and then arranging for Glenn Miller before moving on to Tommy Dorsey for whom he arranged from 1942-1952. After he returned from studying in Europe he hooked up with Eddie Sauter and formed the Sauter-Finegan Orchestra which ran from 1952-1958. Eddie Sauter started his musical journey as a drummer before moving on to the trumpet where he played with the Red Norvo Orchestra. Eventually he too, like Bill Finegan, began to arrange for Norvo before moving on to arrange and compose for Artie Shaw, Tommy Dorsey, Woody Herman and Benny Goodman... not a bad quartet!! The Sauter-Finegan Orchestra was active between 1952-1958 producing a string of highly individualistic albums, four of which it is our delight to bring to you with this new AVID release.
