We Are Movie Geeks
4 stars out of 4 -- It is the director's first straight-up, unabashed musical since SCHOOL DAZE, his best work in at least ten years, and a culmination of tendencies we've seen percolating in his work since his 1986 debut feature SHE'S GOTTA HAVE IT.

It's inspiring to see a talent of Lee's caliber swing for the fences. Chi-Raq may not be perfect, but I can't stop thinking about it.

Memphis Flyer
Rating: 4/5 --
Through music, celebrity and sheer pizzazz, Chi-Raq uses every weapon in its arsenal to get cinema-goers to reflect on the state of the nation. Urgent, clever and a lot of fun, Spike Lee's latest is a classic in the making.

Fresh Fiction
Rating: 3/5 --
It's a mess. But it makes an impression. Chi-Raq has the force of topical-art inevitability. If it didn't exist, you feel, someone would have had to invent it.

Financial Times
Rating: 3/4 --
Lee returns to engaging, enraged form with Chi-Raq, combining social commentary, anger, humour, dramatics and over-the-top style in a sometimes messy mix that uses every trick necessary to put a spotlight on America's poisonous love affair with guns.

Product Description:
In Spike Lee's modern-day adaptation of Aristophanes' play Lysistrata, a gang leader's girlfriend (Teyonah Parris) is called to action after a child is killed by a stray bullet. She convinces a group of women to help put an end to the violence in Chicago's South Side by taking a vow of abstinence, which will only end when their men decide to bring peace to the city. Nick Cannon, Wesley Snipes, Samuel L. Jackson, Jennifer Hudson, and Angela Bassett co-star.
