At the Latvian front during the height of the First World War, sixteen-year-old Artus (Oto Brantevics) suddenly finds himself bereft of his mother (Rezija Kalnina) and his childhood home. The grieving youth then finds companionship and camaraderie as a new army recruit, vowing to defend his nation from encroaching enemy forces.
