Rating: 3/5 -- The film runs out of steam by about the half way mark, where matters of unequivocally passed through the gates of Hell. Full Review

Rating: 3.5/5 -- While it sometimes drags on in certain places and becomes repetitive in its showing of the actions taken by the guards, the film still stands well enough and is able to explore the ugly side of humanity that is very revealing. Full Review

Rating: 2.5/4 -- The acting is uniformly strong and the camera work is winningly claustrophobic, but the film is one note: scene after scene of bullying. Full Review

A gripping dramatization, THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT puts its audience in the same position as the head researcher, Dr. Philip Zimbardo...

Much of what happens during THE STANDFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT seems just too unbelievable to be true. Sadly, and fascinatingly, director Kyle Patrick Alvarez's film depicts the real events of a 1971 study on authority and situational behavior...

The reenactment is ugly and affecting, attention shifting from member to member among the excellent ensemble cast; Tim Talbott's script is streaked with an awareness of privilege that a lesser movie would have neglected. Full Review

Rating: 2/5 -- The film works hard to keep up the suspense: how far will the guards go? How much can the prisoners take? At what point, if any, will Zimbardo and his team intervene? And is his experiment scientific? Objective? Humane? Worthwhile? Full Review

Product Description:

Kyle Patrick Alvarez's drama THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT is based on real events. Dr. Philip Zimbardo (Billy Cruddup) arranges for 24 volunteers to be either guards or inmates a makeshift prison system so that he can observe how their behavior changes. Eventually those playing guards become abusive and dictatorial, while the inmates band together to survive the harsh conditions. What the Stanford professor doesn't expect is that he and the people running the experiment are also being transformed by taking part in it. THE STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT screened at the 2015 Sundance Film Festival.
