Entertainment Reviews:
Rating: 2/4 --
Shana Betz's too-insistent refusal to commit to the melodramatic or to the suspenseful only makes the film seem like empty dramatization.

Rating: 2/5 --
In between bizarrely low-octane moments of authorities circling the ring, the soulful up-and-comer crafts a far more perilous tale, one of a teenage caretaker getting a crash course in growing up too fast, too soon.

Time Out
From top to bottom, it feels authentic, and its laid-back, nonjudgmental tone evokes the easygoing world of Jimmy Buffett songs celebrating how changes in latitude bring changes in attitude.

Rating: 2/5 --
While this true-life odyssey should be the basis for a compelling drama or even a taut thriller, slack direction and a weak screenplay undermine the plot's inherent tension.

Rating: 1/4 --
It's unspeakably depressing to see Anna Paquin playing the mom (of a teenager!), but the pointlessness and mediocrity of the Paquin-produced "Free Ride" is even more depressing.

New York Post
The result, while sincere and nicely evoked, feels choppy, familiar and, despite the script's heavily stacked deck - and a few harrowing episodes - lacks sufficient momentum.

Product Description:
A desperate mother becomes a drug smuggler in South Florida in order to escape an abusive relationship and provide for her two daughters, but ends up getting in over her head in this drama starring Academy Award winner Anna Paquin. Convinced she will wind up dead if she remains in her current relationship, battered Christina (Paquin) loads up her two daughters, and leaves for Florida. There, at the height of the drug-smuggling heyday, Christina quickly earns a reputation as a reliable drug runner. But the law is on to her. Later, when everything goes awry, Christina realizes that she will only have one chance to set the future straight before she winds up in prison, or worse. Drea de Matteo and Cam Gigandet co-star.
