Chicago, Illinois, USA-based indie rock quartet formed in 1992 around singer/guitarists Nina Gordon (Nina Rachel Shapiro Gordon, 14 November 1967, USA) and Louise Post (b. Louise Lightner Post, 7 December 1966, St. Louis, Missouri, USA), eventually joined by bass player Steve Lack and Gordon’s brother, drummer Jim Shapiro (b. 19 March 1965, USA). ‘We started off playing acoustic together and our songs tended to be slower. When we switched to electric and playing distorted guitar they were still kind of slow and we thought of ourselves as dreamy and ethereal with a heavy bottom. Then Steve added a lot of depth to the songs and Jim turned us into a rock band’. Playing their first tentative gigs in September 1993, they went on to release a single, ‘Seether’, on Jim Powers’ Minty Fresh Records.
