Three-quarters of the Photos had previously been three quarters of DJM Records’ token punk band Satans Rats, who released three singles in the late 70s. From Evesham, Worcestershire, this trio comprised Steve Eagles (1958; guitar) and Ollie Harrison (drums), who were at college together, and Dave Sparrow (bass) who had been in the Ipswich band Quorum. The boys were in a club when they came across the photogenic Wendy Wu (b. 29 November 1959, Winson Green, West Midlands, England), who had previously managed a small band and been a hotel receptionist. Recruiting Wendy as their vocalist they became the Photos and signed with CBS Records in 1979. Their debut single was the stunningly accurate, if perhaps a little conceited, ‘I’m So Attractive’. The four-track EP released in 1980 included their own tribute to the Birmingham nightclub Barbarellas. None of their singles on CBS/Epic dented the charts despite Tony Visconti being called in as producer....
