Comprising Len Beasley (lead), Glen Allred (baritone), Derrell Stewart (piano), Buddy Liles (bass), Jerry Trammell (tenor) and Tommy Watwood (various musical instruments), this southern gospel group was first formed in 1947 as the Gospel Melody Quartet. From the 50s onwards they have become one of the most recognisable and popular groups working within the gospel idiom. They became pioneers in the development of religious music broadcasting, hosting the nationally-syndicated show The Gospel Singing Jubilee - on which Beasley is the regular host. In the process the Florida Boys became national celebrities, their albums for Canaan Records selling consistently well. They were the first act ever signed to Canaan following its establishment as a subsidiary of Word Records at the end of the 60s. Beasley is also a lifetime trustee of the Gospel Music Association and a lifetime trustee of the Gospel Music Hall Of Fame.
