Formed in Newark, New Jersey, USA, c.1958, the Fiestas were known for their R&B hit ‘So Fine’, released on Old Town Records the following year. The group consisted of Tommy Bullock (lead vocals), Eddie Morris (tenor), Sam Ingalls (baritone) and Preston Lane (bass). Two conflicting stories about the group’s signing to Old Town have circulated throughout the years. One has the Fiestas recording a demo tape in Newark, which studio owner Jim Gribble brought to the attention of Old Town’s Hy Weiss. The other simply has Weiss overhearing the group singing and liking them enough to take them on. The result was the group’s only hit, a soulful dance number which reached number 11 in the US charts. Only one other single made the charts, but the Fiestas stayed with Old Town until 1965.
