The Explosion

Formed in Boston, Massachusetts, in late 1998, this US punk rock act originally comprised Matt Hock (vocals), Damian Genuardi (bass, ex-In My Eyes) and David Walsh (guitar), with Dan Colby (drums) and Sam Cave (guitar) completing the line-up over the next two years. A self-titled EP and the album Flash Flash Flash were released in 2000 on the Jade Tree label, with critics praising the band’s riff heavy, old-fashioned punk rock as a welcome antidote to the pop-orientated emo played by many of their contemporaries.

Andrew Black replaced Colby at the end of the year and over the next three years the band members concentrated on establishing Tarantulas Records, a jointly owned label set-up by the Explosion in order to promote ‘bands that go against what you believe to be cool’.
